Coping With Grief

Kia ora e hoa,

Grief has many faces. Some days it’s tears, other days it’s silence. Sometimes it’s keeping busy just to get through. However it shows up for you, it’s valid. There’s no single way to grieve, and no timetable you’re supposed to follow.

It can feel like waves rolling in, gentle one moment, crashing the next. That doesn’t mean you’re going backwards. It’s just how grief moves.

On the hardest days, remember the small things. Eat something, even if it’s only a piece of toast. Rest when you can. Let whānau or friends step in and carry a bit of the load. You don’t need to do everything on your own.

Grief softens in its own time. The love you carry doesn’t go away, but the pain slowly changes shape.

Be kind to yourself as you walk this path. And if it ever feels too heavy to carry alone, know we’re here, ready to stand beside you.

Warmest wishes,

The Whakaaio Team
